Lazo Ostojić, executive director of the Belgrade Stock Exchange, took part in the “Capital in motion” conference as a panelist on “The Longevity of Capital – How thoughtful investing builds lasting value for future generations.”
The conference brought together representatives of the financial sector, regulatory institutions, the investment community, companies and industry experts to exchange views on how available capital can be more effectively channelled into investment and economic development.
Ostojić noted that companies, particularly during periods of more intensive growth and larger investment cycles, increasingly need alternative sources of financing. Capital markets enable them to diversify their funding sources, pursue strategic projects and present their growth plans to a broader range of investors. As an important step forward, he highlighted issuances of corporate and green bonds, which demonstrate to other companies that the capital market can serve as a viable source of long-term financing.
One of the key messages was that companies should not be on the Stock Exchange because they have to be, but because they see it as an opportunity for growth and development.
In this direction, the Belgrade Stock Exchange is further intensifying its engagement with companies and the education of market participants. The further development of the market will depend on a broader base of quality issuers, a wider investor base, a more active secondary market, and creating the conditions for capital to be more effectively connected with the development projects of domestic companies.
